It’s time for a challenge!

I signed up for a Paleo Team challenge at my crossfit box (crossfit 073). From September 19 through October 17th, I will try my absolute best to eat paleo and work out well. I won’t be alone as I signed up for this team challenge together with my boyfriend: TEAM SPIRIT! #partnersincrime!

The purpose of this challenge is to create positive habits in both nutrition and working out. As you can read in a lot of my blogposts good food and movement are important when it comes to our health and fitness.

Paleo Team Challenge
Eat Paleo

Paleo is basically based on the notion that for optimal health, modern humans should go back to eating real, whole unprocessed foods that are more healthful than harmful to our bodies. The Paleo tent is big enough to fit a host of different approaches, but the core tenets of ancestral eating remain the same:
• Eat whole, unprocessed, nutrient-dense, nourishing foods. Prioritize grass fed and pastured meats and eggs, wild-caught seafood, and vegetables. Enjoy fruit, nuts, and seeds in moderation.
• Avoid foods that will harm us by causing systemic inflammation, wrecking our guts, or derailing our natural metabolic processes. Abstain from toxic, pro-inflammatory foods like gluten-containing grains, legumes, sugar, and the laboratory-concocted Frankenfoods found in the middle aisles of your neighbourhood supermarket.
You can choose between different levels for the challenge
Level 2 – Permits the consumption of dairy and gluten free products (eg bread, pasta etc)
Level 1 – Permits the consumption of dairy or gluten free products
Level 0 – Paleo as it should be which is dairy and grain free.
I’m still doubting whether to go for Level 1 or Level 0. I want to go for level 0, as this is the most difficult one for me. However, I am a bit scared for this level as I love grains. Moreover, eating paleo is completely new for me. Of course I eat healthy and work out a lot, but eating paleo is a whole other level ;)

Points: You can either earn 4 or 0 points. You earn a 4 as long as you are eating paleo or things that fit into the level you and your partner have chosen. If you eat or drink any non-paleo food or drinks you will receive a 0 for that day.

Work out
we have to attend at least one WOD (workout of the day) a week. Which will not be a problem for us, as the crossfit box feels like a second home for us. We work out at least 4 times a week. When we attend these WODs we will also earn points for our score board.

Bonus Points:
Workout - If you work out more than once a week during this challenge you will earn 1 extra bonus point per WOD.
Sleep - Also 1 extra bonus point will be given for every nigh you get eight or more hours of sleep. Sleep will revitalize your mind, help you recover faster, and helps to improve overall health. Oh god…I love sleep, so this is a real treat for me ;)
Taking Fish Oil – Fish Oil is a significant source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which have numerous documented health benefits, including: improved cholestoral imbalance, reduced inflammation, increased blood flow, better immune function, improved brain function, and more. The improved blood flow and reduced inflammation are of particular importance, enabling harder training and faster recovery. By following the correct dosage for Fish Oil, you will receive one extra bonus point.
Mobility – a bonus point will be given for remaining after a WOD for 10 minutes or arriving 10 minutes before the WOD to work on mobility. Go go Yogatime!!!

Each week we have to write down our score to a score board in our crossfit box. I’m really excited for this challenge. Curious what new eating and sports habits this challenge is going to bring.

I will keep you posted with updates about my Paleo Challenge adventure.

AND….you are free to join me with this challenge :D
